ALBANY, Ore. -- The alleged drunk driver who reportedly crashed his car, killing two of three Sweet Home siblings, is set to stand trial this week.
Austyn Wayne Hillsman, 22, is facing five different charges. Including two counts of manslaughter in the first degree, assault in the second degree, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and reckless driving. As of Tuesday afternoon, lawyers were still in the middle of jury selection.
On May 23, 2020, Hillsman was allegedly driving drunk eastbound on Highway 228 outside of Brownsville. He then reportedly crossed over into oncoming traffic, hitting a car carrying Caleb, Shelby, and Kylee Simonis. Caleb and Shelby passed away that night but Kylee survived the crash.
The trial is expected to last four days. Stay with KEZI for the latest.
