LEBANON, Ore. -- A trial is underway in a manslaughter case involving the death of a one-year-old boy.
According to police, Amber Marie Scott, 21, of Lebanon, was taking care of the toddler in February 2019 when he was found unresponsive. Officials said his breathing had been restricted, which led to his death.
The trial began Monday and is being held at Linn County Fairgrounds because of COVID-19 protocols. Jury selection was all day Monday and half of Tuesday. Opening statements were on Tuesday and testimony from witnesses began afterwards.The trial is expected to last into next week.
Scott is charged with first-degree manslaughter. The indictment accuses her of acting recklessly with extreme indifference to the value of human life. If she is convicted, Scott faces a minimum of 10 years in prison.
