EUGENE, Ore. -- Motorcyclists are embarking on a 3,500-mile journey to honor fallen soldiers and their families.

They all left Friday morning to begin the third annual Tribute to Fallen Soldiers Memorial Torch Ride. They are now making the cross-country journey to Arlington National Cemetery.

Along the way, they will give memorial plaques to 60 gold star families whose loved ones died in combat.

Veneta Army Staff Sergeant Eric Rynearson was honored in Eugene. He died in 2008 after a motorcycle accident.

“These men that do this, they are amazing,” said Kathy Phillips, Rynearson’s mom. “The time that it takes, the money that it takes, and the love, it just amazes me.”

The riders will go through twelve states. KEZI 9 News will be checking in with them as they make their way to Virginia.
