Two-A-Days: Harrisburg Eagles

When Ed Ethell coached Harrisburg's senior class last, they were JV players. The team went undefeated. Now, in 2019, with Ethell at the helm of Eagles varsity football, Harrisburg will try to turn heads again.

Harrisburg, Ore. -- "He hasn't really changed much," says senior Wyatt Perry of his new, or old, coach, Ed Ethell. "He pretty much acts the same. He never really gets mad at us. If he gets mad at us he just tells us to do better and if you do something wrong, work hard."

At Harrisburg, it's out with the new and in the with the old, as former ball coach Ed Ethell returns to Eagles football with fond memories of this upcoming senior class.

"I love these kids," Ethell says. "We have so much fun. Back then I was the JV coach and we had a real great season, had a lot of fun. I remember them all."

From returning star running Gabe Knox to burgeoning quarterback Jonathan Lettkeman, the Eagles feel confident in where they are heading into week 1.

"I feel a lot better because last year I had two weeks to prepare for week 1," Lettkeman explains. "This year I've had all of summer and all of spring ball even to prepare to be the starting quarterback to compete with Chase from Creswell and the competition's going really well."

Knox, of course, will remain the bellcow back after running all over 3A in 2018. But the rest of this team, and the returning seniors, see potential at just about every position on the field.

"We all know we have the potential to do something big," says Knox. "Just focus on, in each of our positions, just playing at our best ability and performing our best. I think if we do that, we'll see a lot of wins."

The Eagles were co champions in their league last season, but are hoping for something more. The hope is to capture some magic again starting against Taft in Week 1.
