Roseburg, Ore. -- The high school football season has arrived. Fall camp has begun and just like many programs throughout the preseason, the sports team at kezi will also be doing Two-A-Days -- previewing two teams a day -- leading up to our first Friday Night Blitz show on September 6th.
Kezi 9 Sports reporter Julian Mininsohn starts our Two-A-Days series sponsored by Abby's Legendary Pizza by checking up on the Roseburg Indians.
So think of a new season like a new painting. You forget about all the other paintings you've done in the past, good or bad, and you have a clean slate. That's what Roseburg Indians hope to do as this year they hope to create art on the field.
First things first -- it's all fundamentals for the Roseburg Indians.
"Right now it's a lot of install," says quarterback Jace Stoffal. "Getting the people who haven't been here yet, getting them the plays, knowing what they're going to do."
That's key for a Roseburg team that won just three games last year -- putting them near the bottom of the Special 6A District 7 league.
"We need to get all the plays down and also get in shape so we're not sucking air when it comes to game time,' Doran Gillespie, Roseburg running back, says. "Just harder wotking. If we work harder we're going to win more games. That's always the goal to win more games."
In order to do that -- this new seniors know it starts with them.
"Just my leadership role, talking a lot more, being involved more, don't be that quiet guy," Jace mentions. "Make sure everyone knows what thye're doing. Just being a leader."
"Try my hardest the whole time," Doran continues. "No regretting anything that I did. Just go out there and play hard."
Roseburg certainly pictures themselves better than last sesaon.
