The Linn County Sherriff's Office said the first accident happened in Linn County at 8:04 a.m. Two men were working on a steep embankment when a log rolled onto them.

Deputies responded to assist the Lyons Fire Department with a report of a logging accident on a logging road just outside of Lyons. Both loggers were conscious. Once fire officials removed the two loggers, both went straight to the hospital.

Ian Buczko, 32, sustained injuries of unknown severity and was transported to Santiam Memorial Hospital in Stayton. Terry Gene Nelson, 48, of Scio was transported to Legacy Emmanuel Medical Center in Portland and later died from his injuries.

The second logging accident happened at 8:40 a.m. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a logging accident near the town of Alsea. A log rolled on two men while they were working for Wiest Logging on an active logging site off Lobster Valley Road.

An air ambulance was immediately requested but was declined due to bad weather conditions.

Hector Rodarte, 27, of Monmouth was pronounced dead at the scene. Ricky Payton, 29, of Independence was transported to Good Sam Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.
