Lowell, OR -- The Lowell Devils are looking to take that next step in 2019.

"We all just bought in," senior Taysian Williamson said. "There's a lot of people that showed up to all the workouts and went to do the extra workouts in the summer and the spring to make sure that we could get to this point, at this point and get ahead of the game in the fall. And we did a lot better with that last year and are doing that this year."

After a trip to the 1A quarterfinals, the Lowell Red Devils want more. That buy-in that senior running back Taysian Williamson is talking about came naturally.

"I hear other coaches talking about having a hard time getting other kids out," head coach Patt Todd said. "We have tons of kids, that doesn't always mean you have talent, but we have numbers. Ten to thirteen kids in the weight room, which is the best turnouts I've ever had. We've had some good ones but I was thrilled when I saw that."

It helps guys like Williamson, who will be adding roles after some skill position starters graduated out.

"I didn't play offense last year so moving to a new position on offense this year," Williamson said. "I'm playing running back this year so working on my endurance and being able to play every down."

Coach Todd thinks they overachieved in 2018, but is keeping the expectations just as high this year.

"Somewhere around the tenth best team in the state and for us to overachieve, winning that first game of the state would be an accomplishment," Todd said. "But if we could win that second round game and get to the final four would be a huge year for us."
