EUGENE, Ore. -- Eugene Police arrested two people for allegedly assaulting two convenience store clerks on Tuesday night.

The incident happened at the 7-Eleven store at the intersection of Blair Boulevard and W. 6th Avenue in Eugene around 7:45 p.m.

KEZI 9 News talked to one of the clerks, who we won't be identifying for her safety.

She said those two people, who police have identified as 31-year-old Ricky Walker and 28-year-old Shania McNair, entered the store, tried to purchase about $10 worth of items with a $100 bill, and were told by the clerk and her co-worker that they can't give change for a bill that size.

"We're at 6th and Blair," the clerk said. "We're not going to keep 20s. We're going to drop them immediately."

The clerk said after telling that to Walker and McNair, the two became violent.

"He started grabbing whatever was closest to him," the clerk said. "He started chucking cookies at her face, then started throwing bananas at her."

When the clerk we talked to tried to step in, she said the situation really went downhill.

"I went around the corner, around the edge of the counter where they were, and was like okay guys, you gotta get out of here," the employee said. "Then he charged me and he grabbed me and he threw me into the soda machine."

She said when her co-worker stepped in to stop it, Walker and McNair started attacking the other employee, who ended up with a mild concussion.

She said the couple eventually left. She and her co-worker called Eugene Police, and she said police tracked down Walker and McNair at a motel just down the street and arrested them.

"We didn't make it out unscathed, but I feel a lot better today knowing they were captured and that I hopefully don't have to worry about them coming back in," the clerk said.

The other employee was taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries, then released. Police said Walker and McNair have been charged with third-degree assault and second-degree burglary.
