ROSEBURG, Ore. -- Umpqua Community College held their fifth annual Day of Remembrance ceremony Thursday in honor of the nine lives lost on Oct. 1, 2015.
The ceremony was held virtually due to COVID-19.

Like previous years, the ceremony was kept short and brief. Guests heard speeches from the president of the college and other staff members.
Then, a moment of silence was held for the victims.
“I know grieving has been hard and exhausting,” said President Debra Thatcher. “Your lives have been forever changed and at times, it’s still kind of hard to believe this even happened.”
UCC staff said the ceremony in normally closed to the public.
However, they said they chose to livestream it to the community to show how much they’ve appreciated their support over the years.
