ROSEBURG, Ore. – Umpqua Community College President Debra Thatcher plans to retire next summer.

Officials said the retirement is effective July 1, 2021. Thatcher has been president for four years.

“We have an outstanding faculty and staff who, in collaboration with so many community partners, have truly transformed students’ lives, helping them achieve educational goals that lead to family wage careers, engaged citizenship, and new hope for the future,” Thatcher wrote in a statement.

During her time at the college, UCC has reestablished a forestry program, stared a cybersecurity program, expanded nursing, added athletic programs, and more. Construction has also begun on a 10/1 memorial that is scheduled to be complete later in the fall. It will honor those who died during the shooting in 2015.

The UCC Board of Education will reveal plans for the presidential search soon.
