EUGENE, Ore. – A University of Oregon student was robbed at gunpoint late Wednesday night while walking in the university area, police say.
Just after 11 p.m., a white man in his 20s reportedly confronted the woman in the 1800 block of Kincaid Street. Police said the man is of an average height and build.
Residents are asked to immediately report robberies, which is what the victim in this case did, because suspects can get far away in a short window of time, police said.
The department shared the following tips for helping avoid being a victim:
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Don’t wear headphones or earpieces
- Walk with a buddy
- Use a taxi or rideshare service or have a friend pick you up.
Safe transportation resources are available to UO students through the university. Duck Rides offers night-time transportation seven days a week from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m.; call 541-346-7433. And UOPD offers on-campus escorts; call 541-346-2919.
