LEABURG, OR. -- An update on the Coho Salmon rescued from last year's Eagle Creek fire near the Columbia River Gorge.
In September 2017, 1 million juvenile Coho Salmon were brought to the Leaburg Hatchery. About 500,000 of them will be transferred to their natural habitat in the Lostine River, starting March 5.
It will take eight truckloads and three days to complete the task.
The Lostine River eventually connects to the Wallowa River which then makes its way to the Columbia River.
Another 500,000 fish were transferred last week for eventual release into the Umatilla River, a tributary of the Columbia River.
