TILLER, Ore. -- Wildland fire crews in Douglas County are working roughly 25 different fires from storms that moved in over the weekend.

The fires were caused by lightning, and officials with the Umpqua National Forest said they vary in size, anywhere from a tenth of an acre to much more than that.

They’re currently working on getting crews in the air to figure out exactly how large the biggest fires are.

Officials said lightning from storms that rolled through Monday started the fires, most of which are in the Tiller Ranger District.

Forest officials said they're moving resources from the Silver Creek Fire down to Tiller to make an aggressive push to keep the fires contained.

They'll also have help from Rogue Siskiyou National Forest crews, as well as the Douglas Forest Protective Association.

Emily Veale with the Umpqua National Forest said so far they've been effective responding to fires this season, and they want to keep it that way.

“We’ve done a really good job with being aggressive in fighting those fires. We have some of those starts, so we’re moving resources across the forest,” Veale said. “Most of the air (crews) will be moving down to Tiller, so it will be easier for them to move from that heli-spot to fires in that general location. But, we’re trying to be really aggressive with our initial attack.”

The Umpqua National Forest is currently working with their partner agencies to coordinate efforts to attack any fires threatening structures in the Tiller area.
