FLORENCE, Ore. -- The Heceta Head Lighthouse closure has been extended to Sept. 30.
The lighthouse was supposed to reopen July 31, but repair crews have run into some unexpected issues, the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department said.
Crews are working to fix a few metal columns on the upper floor, and the lighthouse’s lens will be covered and out of service during the repair work.
No visitors will be allowed to enter the lighthouse, but the grounds surrounding the building will remain open to the public.
The historic assistant lighthouse keeper’s house, which the U.S. Forest Service runs as a bed and breakfast through a concessionaire, will also remain open.
