EUGENE, Ore. -- PeaceHealth's University District Hospital is temporarily restricting access after receiving a threat, officials say.

Police said at about 10:30 a.m. a 37-year-old patient threatened hospital staff but he is not believed to have been armed. They said he left the hospital, threatening to return, and the hospital went on modified lockdown.

The man allegedly ran down Alder Street toward East 11th Avenue.

Hospital officials said that patient access is restricted at the entry to the emergency room and first and third floors of the clinic building across from the hospital, as there is a sky bridge from the third floor of the clinic to the hospital. As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the restrictions remain in place.

Hospital officials said the restrictions would stay in place at least through the night.

Police said the suspect, who they have identified is described as being 6 feet 2 inches and 200 pounds with short brown hair. He was last seen wearing dark clothing. Police have not released his name.

The Lane County Sheriff's Office and University of Oregon Police Department are working with Eugene police.
