Vehicle fire spread to nearby field

Eugene, Ore. - A vehicle was engulfed in flames after it skidded off the road and hit a power pole early Sunday morning.

It happened between W 5th Avenue and 11th Avenue on South Bertelsen Road.

Police said the car was headed southbound on South Bertelsen Road when it skidded for a few hundred yards. The car then hit a power pole and caught fire. The power pole and a nearby field also caught fire.

Crews were able to get the fire under control quickly.

Police said they didn’t find anyone in the car. They believe the driver got out and ran.

The crash is still under investigation.
