VENETA, Ore. -- People living in Veneta and Elmira are trying to figure out what to do after roughly 15 burglaries and thefts over the last week.
Resident Ryan Willcut said things in Veneta have only gotten worse over the last couple of months.
"Oh Jesus. I've been here most of my life and in Deadwood, but this -- I've never seen a problem like this," Willcut said.
Willcut isn't the only one to notice what's been happening.
Resident Katie Thompson said she's concerned about what's happening to their little town.
"It just makes me kinda wonder what's going on in the rest of the town, because this town used to be super safe, a little country town," Thompson said. "That's part of why we moved here. Of course, we don't want to move, but I think we would definitely like some helpgetting that stuff gone, you know?"
We have reached out to the Lane County Sheriff's Office but have not heard back from them at this time.
Other residents we talked to wouldn't go on camera because they fear retaliation, but said they now leave their lights on at night, double check the locks on their doors and are even considering moving because of the recent crime issues.
However, resident Rocky Stewart said he hasn't been affected by what's been going on.
"All the time the neighbors have come over and said hey, you know, our bikes are getting stolen and close your garage or this or that," Stewart said. "Personally, I just haven't had experience."
If anything like this has happened to your or in your area, you are encouraged to call the Lane County Sheriff's Office as soon as possible.
