EUGENE, Ore. -- The alleged victims of a violent stabbing in Eugene are calling it a hate crime, saying they were attacked because they are Hispanic.

Police told KEZI 9 News the stabbing happened near 99 W. Broadway Saturday night just after midnight.

One of the alleged victims, who wished to remain anonymous, said she and three others went downtown for a girls night out and asked her husband and brother-in-law to pick them up at a nearby parking lot.

That's when two white men and a white woman started verbally harassing them, using racial slurs. She said they tried to ignore them and got into their car but said one the attackers slashed a tire on their car and a fight broke out.

"The next thing I know the guy pulls out a knife and stabs my husband, stabs my brother-in-law," the alleged victim said. "My brother-in-law falls on the floor, and he is just profusely bleeding, he is just bleeding out."

Police said a third man was also stabbed -- a bystander who tried to stop the fight. Police said all the injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

Travis Holiday of nearby Pizza My Cart said he's surprised something like this would happen and hopes the man who tried to stop it makes a full recovery.

"I think it's courageous of him to want to help in that situation," Holiday said. "It's very odd that it happened on a busy night, Saturday night."

The alleged victim who spoke to KEZI 9 News said she was also punched in the face. She is calling it a hate crime.

"When you put two and two together, why are you chasing us down the street calling us dirty Mexicans and then slashing our tire?" the alleged victim said, addressing the attackers. "And you didn't just stab one, you didn't stab two, you stabbed three people."

At last check, no arrests have been made. A spokesperson for the Eugene Police Department said they are still investigating the case.
