LANE COUNTY, Ore. -- Over 800 volunteers spent the day Thursday working with nonprofits all across Lane County as a part of United Way's annual Day of Caring.

In total, 47 businesses participated and volunteered with almost 50 different nonprofit organizations.

Volunteer projects included caring for neighborhood yards, cleaning playgrounds and creating family wellness kits for those in need.

Volunteers gave 3,830 hours of service.

"When I knew they were coming today and that we were gonna have even more help from PeaceHealth, I was just so excited because the amount of work that they can get done is just amazing," Lise Schellman with the Pearl Buck Center.

The day of caring is United Way's largest event, bringing the community together to support their vision of ensuring kids are successful in school and life.
