EUGENE, Ore. – With hotter summer temperatures, the wading pool at the River Road Parks and Recreation District will soon be an option for kids to beat the heat.

Once completed, the wading pool will have new spray features kids can enjoy. It will also meet ADA requirements with wheelchair access.

Since March, the River Road Parks and Recreation District has been remodeling it. The wading pool has been there since 1964, so they had to have some problems with the pumps and maintenance of the pool.

The project costs around $300,000. Officials from the parks and recreation district said they were able to get about $190,000 from the Oregon Parks Foundation, and they have funded the rest.

"I'm just excited to get it open again,” said Dale Weigandt, the superintendent of the River Road Parks and Recreation District. “It's a really fun part of the community to have this wading pool for park district patrons."

For kids in the district, it is free to visit the pool. For kids outside of the district, it is $1.

The wading pool will be open 7 days a week. From 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. it will be open for kids who are under a height of 50 inches. From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. it will be open for kids as tall as 54 inches.

Weigandt said he expects the pool to open in early August.
