EUGENE, Ore. -- Lane County Commissioners unanimously passed an ordinance Tuesday that places a curfew on the Butterfly Lot, and the Eugene Police Department said they will enforce the new rules.
Under the ordinance, no one is allowed to stay, sleep or tent on the downtown Eugene lot on 8th Avenue and Oak Street between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
The curfew was passed after Eugene police removed homeless campers who had moved back to the lot from the Highway 99 camp.

Police said they will not be dedicating specific resources to patrolling the Butterfly Lot, but officers will ensure compliance with the curfew at the county's request.
They added that they will seek voluntary compliance before taking enforcement action.
