EUGENE, Ore. – Plans to put WinCo stores into northeast Eugene and Roseburg are taking steps forward.

Eugene city officials have granted permits to the company to begin work at the site of the old Shopko on Chad Drive.

Opponents of the Eugene project are trying to stop it at the Oregon Court of Appeals, but the city has approved the project and issued remodeling, plumbing and other permits.

Meanwhile, city councilors in Roseburg are moving forward with the planned WinCo project there. In a 7-0 vote, they approved the planning commission’s decision, giving the green light to the WinCo Foods site plan review application.

The company wants to build a nearly 73,000-square-foot store at the old Kmart building site on Stewart Parkway.
