WINSTON, Ore. -- The Winston-Dillard School District is making sure no student starves by giving a free breakfast and lunch every day, regardless of their financial background.

The money for the free meals comes from the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program’s Community Eligibility Provision.
The federal program provides no-cost meals for high poverty schools and districts in the United States.

The Winston-Dillard School District was approved for the program based on the percentage of families in the district that qualify for programs like food stamps.

“I’ve always been a huge advocate for kids eating free,” said Kyle Micken, the nutritional service director for the Winston-Dillard School District. “And all kids eating free is just one more benefit of it.”

Micken said parents will no longer have to apply for free and reduced lunch qualifications every school year.

In addition, he said all outstanding lunch fees from students will be covered by the school district.
