WINSTON, Ore.— Pine Tree Apartments recently notified their tenants of a possible coronavirus case in their complex, but public health officials say it wasn't their place to do so.
Tenants received a notice on their doors Tuesday regarding the possible case.
The letter states that management has "become aware that an individual has tested positive, or presumed to be positive by a health professional, for COVID-19/Coronavirus was present on the premises.”
Management told KEZI 9 News that they are unable to release more details about the possible case. However, they said they gave the notice as a courtesy to tenants.
Douglas County public health officer Bob Dannenhoffer did not confirm whether or not this case was true.
However, he said this letter has potential to scare and create rumors in the community.
“One of the things we don’t want to do is have panic,” said Dannenhoffer. “And putting notes on people’s doors could indeed instill panic.”
Dannenhoffer said the county isn’t releasing any information about their cases because they believe it goes against the patients' privacy.
