EUGENE, Ore. – A woman is spreading the holiday cheer by donating more than 14,000 diapers to the Eugene Mission.
This all started when a local radio station challenged their listeners to help them donate 10,000 diapers to the Eugene Mission.
They were inspired to issue the challenge when they saw our story earlier this month on how the Eugene Mission was in desperate need of diapers.
Nichole Vavra wanted to contribute and with the help of several of her friends and the community she collected more than 14,000 diapers. Vavra said she did it because she feels for the moms in our community.
"I guess just being a mom and having two toddlers,” Vavra said. “You hear that the Women’s Center has none and state assistance doesn't help with that and you just can't help but want to help the moms and the babies that have no diapers."
Caitlin Vargas, the development director at the Eugene Mission, said they collected more than 16,000 diapers, thanks to the radio station's challenge. Vargas said it accounts for about a year's supply of diapers for the mission.
