ROSEBURG, Ore. -- The YMCA of Douglas County will be reopening to members on June 1.
There was uncertainty about when they would be able to open again, but after receiving word that Douglas County would reopen May 15, staff said it was perfect timing.

“We miss all our members so much,” said interim executive director Gary Williams. “When you get to see people and know them each and every day, when you don’t see them, you really miss them.”
Williams said they’re still trying to figure out what the club will look like when it reopens.
However, he said members can expect it to look very different as they adjust to Gov. Kate Brown’s phase one guidelines.
“It will be much more spread out, there will be less people involved, there will be less classes to start with until we get into another phase of reopening,” said Williams.
Williams said they expect the entire facility to reopen, with the exception of the pools.
To celebrate the reopening, Williams said they will be hosting their annual Water Safety Day Saturday at 10 a.m.
This will be one of the first official events held since the YMCA closed in March.
Williams said they will host the event drive-through style. Staff will hand out more than 200 life jackets while local law enforcement teaches members about water safety.
However, Williams said the event is a representation of how the YMCA is moving forward.
“It will give us a chance to see some of those people as they drive through and learn about water safety,” said Williams. “And tell them about how we’re anxious to reopen and get them in the building.”
