Yoncalla house fire claims life of 14-year-old

A house fire in the 3700-block of Hayhurst Road in Yoncalla claimed the life of a 14 year-old on Monday morning.

YONCALLA, Ore. -- A house fire in the 3700 block of Hayhurst Road in Yoncalla claimed the life of a teenager on Monday morning.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said at 10:21 a.m. they received a report of a house fire. It was later reported a 14-year-old girl was unaccounted for and could still be inside of the house.

The sheriff's office said the young girl, Gracey Weinhold, was found inside the home and firefighters were able to get her out of the home to a waiting ambulance. They said she was unresponsive and taken to RiverBend Hospital where she later died.

Next of kin has been notified.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The sheriff's office is conducting an investigation alongside the Oregon State Fire Marshal's Office and Oregon State Police Arson Unit.
