EUGENE, Ore. -- Former Oregon State guard Mikayla Pivec has decided to sit out the 2020 WNBA season and has been suspended by the Atlanta Dream.

The news comes just 10 days after Mikayla Pivec was supposed to make her professional debut. For obvious coronavirus related reasons, however, the WNBA season has been put on hold until further notice. Nonetheless, Pivec will not be seen in a Dream jersey until 2021.

Atlanta made the announcement over Twitter, saying Pivec is skipping the 2020 season for personal reasons and will be welcomed back next year. Pivec was the 25th overall pick in the 2020 draft and remains OSU’s all-time leading rebounder.

The Atlanta coaching staff will have to tweak the depth chart because Pivec is not the only Dream player arranged to sit out this season. Add Maite Cazorla to that list.

The former Oregon star announced she will remain overseas in Spain because of personal reasons rather than play in 2020. Atlanta also mentioned Cazorla will be welcomed back next season. The dream selected her in the 2019 draft as the 23rd overall pick. Cazorla recorded 1,474 points and 691 assists for the Ducks — second most all-time behind the great Sabrina Ionescu.
