Corvallis, OR-- Beaver nation is still recovering only three short days after Oregon State football dropped its season opener to Oklahoma State by 16 points. But Beaver fans have a reason to be excited, the team already looks improved on the offensive side from a season ago.

Last Friday the Beavers scored the most points in a season opener (36) since the 2013 season when the team lost Eastern Washington 49-46. Senior Quarterback Jake Luton preformed at a high level against a solid Cowboys' defense, throwing for 251 yards along with three touchdowns. On top of that, junior wide-receiver Isiah Hodgins has brought over his season high-performance from last year into this one, catching nine passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns.

With a tough opponent coming up in the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors this Saturday, head coach Jonathan Smith is optimistic about his team.

"We're are not overreacting to game one," Smith explained. "But also we are not under reacting and focusing in on these details and urgency to improve. That's kind of been the message to the team."

Oregon State currently has a two-game winning streak against Hawaii, dating back to the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Although this will be a chance for the team to get back to .500 and extend their winning streak against the Rainbow Warriors, the coaching staff is looking at a much bigger picture.

"We will take the team to Pearl Harbor on Friday," said Smith. "Taking advantage of that opportunity to show them a historical site. I think that's cool that we can do this as coaches in this game. To be able to do more than the X's and O's with these guys."
