Corvallis, OR. -- The Oregon State football team is no stranger to bouncing back after a defeating loss. In fact, the Beavers have not lost consecutive games since September when they started 0-2.

Now Oregon State (5-6, 4-4) is in a situation where it has to beat the Oregon Ducks in Eugene to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2013. OSU quarterback Jake Luton spoke to the media Tuesday about how the team has responded after the crushing loss to Washington State.

“It was probably the toughest loss I've ever had in my life,” said Luton. “It was just a heartbreaker and it really hurt for a while but you have to flush it. I think we bounced back really well. We had a great practice just now. And that's kind of what we've done all year. We've been in some really close games and unfortunately a couple of them we haven't come out on the right side of it. And then we come out and have a great week of practice and play well the next Saturday. So that's what we plan to do."

The offensive preparation has been as detailed as it’s been all season long. Oregon is the best defense in the Pac-12 conference and ranked No. 29 nationally in total defense. The Ducks have 34 sacks and 17 interceptions this year. OSU offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren knows the challenge Oregon brings Saturday.

“I see [the Ducks] as one of the top defenses in the conference, if not the country,” said Lindgren. “They have a lot of veteran players that have played a lot of football. They’re physical and really sound. It’ll be a great challenge for our offense and an even tougher environment to play in.”

The 123rd Civil War between Oregon and Oregon State will kickoff on Saturday at 1 p.m. from Autzen Stadium.
