Eugene, Ore. -- Both Oregon and Oregon State opened their NCAA women's soccer seasons on Thursday playing non conference opponents. The Ducks dispatched Fresno State 5-0 while the Beavers took down Seattle 1-0 in head coach Lauren Sinacola's first win as OSU head coach.

Oregon women's soccer scored 12 goals in the entire shortened spring season in 2021. Just a few months later in their season opener, they almost scored half that number in a single game. In what was the highest scoring season opener in nearly 25 years, the Ducks cruised by Fresno State to the tune of 5-0.

The Ducks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first half courtesy of a beautiful Mia Palmer strike and two goals from Ally Cook, last years' leading goal scorer. The five goals were the most in a single game since 2010 and the most by the Ducks in a season opener since a 7-2 win over San Francisco State in 1997.

Meanwhile, the Lauren Sinacola era in Corvallis opened with a win. The Beavers stayed perfect in their series with Seattle University, beating the Redhawks 1-0 at Lorenz Field in Corvallis.

Junior Maddie Tetz found the net at the 37-minute mark with an assist from freshman McKenna Martinez to put the Beavers on the board. In the 64th minute. Amber Jackson hit off the post, barely missing the goal. In total, the Beavers notched five shots on goal and took eight corner kicks.

On the defensive end, senior Bridgette Skiba held down the fort, posting her 10th career solo shutout, tallying three saves on the evening.
