Eugene, OR. -- The Oregon softball team may have lost its series against the Bruins this past weekend but a lot of positives can be taken away from the resilient play.

For starters, the Ducks handed the then-No. 1 UCLA its first Pac-12 and home loss of the season. Secondly, Oregon played well enough on offense and defense to be contenders in each of the three games.

“I thought we were in it all the way,” said head coach Melyssa Lombardi. “UCLA just had an inning where they were able to push through and put some runs on the board. If we can minimize that and stop the bleeding if an opponent has a big inning, then we should continue to play our best ball.”

Oregon has certainly played its best softball over the course of the past few weeks. With 14 games left in the remainder of the regular season, the Ducks will try to use the momentum to their advantage.

“I think at times you see teams come right out of the gates and they end up peaking a little too soon. But for us, I think we are peaking right at the right time and I think they realize that as well,” said Lombardi.

Oregon will host the Cal Golden Bears for a three game weekend series starting on Thursday night at 5:00.
