Springfield, Ore. -- It's taken Cooper Teare a long time but after a decorated Oregon career that spans over four years, he's finally able to check 'won a cross country race' off his list.

"That definitely was a little bit of motivation," Teare said.

It had been two years since his last cross country race but the senior looked as sharp as ever, edging teammate Aaron Bienenfeld by 1.5 seconds to claim the top spot. Bienenfeld, a five time American Athletic Conference Champion for Cincinnati transferred to Oregon this year. As a team, the Ducks won with 57 points.

"To do it with a team I really believe in I couldn't be happier," TEare said. "Great first race, Good step in the right direction. Showed where our weaknesses are, where our strengths are. I'm loooking forward to just building from here."

On the women's side, Oregon's Izzy Thornton-Bott won the race overall, but was racing unaffiliated. Since she started her career in Australia and this being her first NCAA race, she'll be eligible to compete for the Ducks in their next competition. The Women of Oregon finished sixth overall, one spot behind Oregon State.

OSU's Grace Fetherstonhaugh, the Beavers lone NCAA Championship qualifier last season, finished in 10th place. Her time of 20:21.5 was a 6K personal best while teammate and redshirt sophomore Kaylee Mitchell finished 17th with a personal best of her own.

"I wasn't really sure where I was at during the race so I just my place now," said Fetherstonhaugh. "I just learned my place now. It means a lot. It was a really god start with our team. We're pretty happy with this going forward with the season. It's a good place to start. We got to do it close to home too. We got a lot of friends and family out so it's nice."
