Eugene, Ore. -- The University of Oregon announced their new Women's Tennis coach on Friday: Courtney Nagle, a familiar name in Eugene circles. The former University of North Carolina assistant coach was also a player for the Ducks from 2002-2005. As an assistant on the Tar Heels staff, Nagle helped guide the program to a 122-12 dual match record, three ACC championships and two Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Titles.

"Courtney's leadership skills, commitment to the student-athlete experience, ability to develop talent, and experience working with a championship program at the highest level makes her a perfect fit to lead the Oregon women's tennis program," said Rob Mullens, Oregon athletic director.

Nagle was on staff with UNC in 2018 as the Tar Heels went 28-4 overall and won the ACC and ITA Indoor National Championship. UNC also was the NCAA tournament no. 2 seed. They fell to Stanford in the Sweet 16, who eventually went on to win the national championship. Nagle was named the ITA Assistant Coach of the Year in 2017. Prior to moving to North Carolina, Nagle was an assistnat for two seasons at the University of Iowa, and started her career at the University of Colorado.

As a player, she started her career as a walk-on in Eugene, eventually becoming a scholarship athlete. The Ducks made the NCAA tournaments in 2002 and 2004, and in 2003 Nagle reached the NCAA Quarterfinals in Doubles play. She was the first women's doubles All-American in University of Oregon history. She was a volunteer assistant with the Ducks in 2005 and again in 2010.

Brian Kalbas, UNC Women's Tennis Head Coach, said of Nagle: "Courtney is arguably the best coach and best person in all of men's or women's collegiate tennis. Oregon is her dream job and she had other opportunities to be a head coach, but wanted to wait for the perfect fit and found it. I'm so happy for her and the Oregon athletics department."
