Corvallis, Ore. -- Oregon State football team's 2019 signing class rises to 31 with the addition of 12 more players on National Signing Day.
The class includes four transfers and four junior college players. Nebraska transfer Tristan Gebbia is expected to help the Beavers right away while he competes for the starting quarterback spot with 6th year returner Jake Luton.
"We (Gebbia and Luton) go into game prep and stuff last year and we'd talk about plays he likes and plays he doesn't like," said Gebbia. "I wasn't an assistant for very long, but he'd get to the sideline in the game and I'd try to help out as much as I could. I think for the most part he's got a lot of experience, and that's going to be really good for us regardless of who's playing."
Another incoming transfer expected to add depth to OSU is Addison Gumbs, who joined the Beavers from Oklahoma. Gumbs is recovering from ACL surgery and is expected to miss some of Spring practices, but the coaches remain high on what he brings to the team.
Defensive Coordinator Tim Tibesar said, "I've been impressed so far with his football intelligence. When I've had a chance to meet with him, he comes up and wants to talk football. He's a football junky himself, wants to come up and watch film with me and learn as much as he can."
The key word of the day for the coaching staff however, was consistency. Offensive coordinator and Tibesar both said that in the second year of their program they want to see their respective units play more consistently and head coach Jonathan Smith agreed.
"I'm with that word consistency, because again we talked about establishing something year one, now we got to consistently to build on those habits that we got established," Smith said. "And so I want these guys to have a consitent work ethic, I want these guys to consistently drive to get better, and learn the scheme better, and change their body, and get faster and stronger. And being consistent gives them the best chance to do that."
