Eugene, Ore. -- Former Mississippi State head coach Joe Moorhead is expected to be coming to the University of Oregon as the Ducks new offensive coordinator, Brett McMurphy of Stadium reports. The hire comes nearly a month after Marcus Arroyo left Oregon to be the head coach at UNLV, who returned to coach the Ducks to a 28-27 Rose Bowl win over Wisconsin.

Moorhead, who was fired from Mississippi State after two seasons, amassed a 14-12 record in Starkville, making it to the Outback and Music City bowls. Prior to his time with the Bulldogs, Moorhead enjoyed a major run of success with Penn State as offensive coordinator, overseeing the development of running back Saquon Barkley and guiding the Nittany Lions offense to 432.6 yards per game in 2016.

In 2017, Sports Illustrated and Yahoo named Moorhead the no. 1 rising assistant in college football.

His first head coaching job came in New York City, where he led the Fordham Rams to the FCS Playoffs three times, a mark they haven't achieved since, while engineering a turnaround that saw the team go from 1-10 in 2011 (the year before his hire) to 11-3 in 2014.

The Ducks were led this season by Justin Herbert, who passed for 3,471 yards for 32 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. CJ Verdell ran for over 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season while wide receiver Johnny Johnson III enjoyed a renaissance, catching 57 passes for 836 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Herbert will graduate this season alongside wide receiver Juwan Johnson, tight end Jacob Breeland and four of their starting five offensive linemen.
