EUGENE, OR - After trailing 3-1 through the first two innings, the Sheldon Irish got hot at the right time to complete the comeback against the Tualatin Timberwolves and win the 6A State Championship.

In the 6th inning, Emma Neuman recorded a 3-run double that gave the Irish the lead for the first time in the game.

The Lindenwood University commit said, "It was just an awe moment for me. I hit it and I was like I think that's going in the gap, so let's start running really quick."

The Timberwolves would score one more in the seventh, but would fail to tie the game up leaving a runner stranded on third.

The win solidified the school's first state softball championship.

"It's unbelievable. you know five years ago I took over, this team seemed like an impossible dream," said head coach Mike Faulconer. "But you know every year we've gotten better, the girls work hard, we've got a great group of girls on this squad. I couldn't be prouder of them."

The Irish will lose five seniors this offseason, but are confident the program will continue to improve with the experience their younger players have gained.

Neuman said, "This game just teaches us to never give up. My freshman year, we weren't very good. This is our first state championship at our high school for softball. First time we've won league this year too. It just shows you that you can build up a program pretty well."
