Ben Ames joined KEZI 9 News and the StormTracker 9 weather team as a meteorologist in January 2021. He forecasts weekday mornings on KEZI 9 News This Morning from 5 to 7 a.m. and on KEZI 9 News at Midday at 11 a.m.
Ben joined KEZI after graduating from Penn State University with a B.S. in Meteorology and Atmospheric Science and a minor in Energy Business and Finance. He previously worked in the weather department at WMDT 47 ABC forecasting the weather in Salisbury, Maryland. At Penn State, Ben was involved with the Campus Weather Service, a student-led broadcasting team.
Ben grew up in Catonsville, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore. The unpredictable weather of the Mid-Atlantic grabbed his attention at a young age, with hurricanes, severe storms, and blizzards all fascinating him.
When not forecasting for Western Oregon, Ben enjoys watching his Penn State Nittany Lions and the Baltimore Ravens. He is an avid skier and played lacrosse while at Penn State. Ben is excited to change coasts and explore beautiful Oregon! You can follow Ben on Twitter.
The conditions bring increased concern as the state prepares for wildfire season, set to start in the coming weeks.
