narrow streets of capital hill. the city of eugene is looking for volunteers who don't mind getting a little dirty this weekend. the city is holding a "clean up for clean water" event at ferndale park. the park has one of the largest stormwater facilities in eugene and the city needs volunteers to help clear out extra vegetation to make sure clean water is flowing into our rivers. ferndale park is one of several storage sites that treats stormwater, creates habitat for wildlife and reduces flooding. cristine inglis/ city of eugene says "it gives the water a chance to infiltrate right on site, recharge the ground water and the plants themselves are amazing, they are so cool. not only do they provide a habitat for wildlife but they also remove pollutants from the water so that's ultimately what these facilities are doing for us, is they're cleaning the water for us." you don't need any experience... just warm clothes that can get dirty. the city will provide all the tools, gloves and instructions. if you can help out... it's happening from 9 until noon. you do need to rsvp. we have a link to
