the fifth annual "family safety fair" was held at the willamalane bob keefer center in springfield today. this event is an*interactive way for the whole family to learn about how to prevent accidents and injuries. some of the activities included child car seat checks, free bike hel- mets and water safety tips. the fun did*not stop inside...there was also tours of a life-flight helicopter...a coast guard boat...a special ambulance for transporting newborns -- and other emergency vehicles. "i'm a pediactric surgeon and one of the things pediatric surgeons do is take care of injured children...and i dont want to ever take care of an injured child again because there isnt a single accident that happens that's not preventable." ruscher says one of the safety initiatives was putting button batteries in hot dogs...to show what a child's esophagus would look like if
