Man in life-threatening condition after Eugene Starbucks stabbing

Police say a man was stabbed outside of Starbucks in downtown Eugene Saturday morning and sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

5" a man is facing life threatening injuries tonight after he was stabbed in downtown eugene. thank you for joining us... i'm jillian smukler. witnesses say around 7 o clock this morning an elderly man was stabbed in the throat right outside of starbucks. kezi 9 news reporter emma jerome has the latest details in the investigation in tonight's top story. emma jerome: "jillian... gabriel pemble is in custody after stabbing a man outside of this starbucks on broadway and willamette in downtown eugene. the victim was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries." joe boulton: "it's not violent... nothing like that... nothing like stabbing somebody." saturday morning around 7 a.m... police responded to a call that a man had been stabbed outisde of the downtown starbucks. i'm told the man was a regular. he would come every morning and drink his coffee out in front of the starbucks that's just what he was doing when witnesses say a man approached him randomly... grabbed him from behind... and stabbed him in the throat. he was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries and the starbucks was closed allowing city crews to clean blood from the sidewalk in front of the storefront. police arrived quickly and arrested pemble who was still at the scene of the crime when they arrived... joe bolton is a springfield resident who regularly frequents the downtown area and he says violence of this level is very out of character for the. joe boulton: "i haven't seen any violence... most of the time... people just talk to themselves stuff like that... we have a lot of people like that down here." pemble was booked into lane county jail and charged with first degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, both of which are felonies, and carrying a concealed weapon... a misdemeanor. ej: "crews have worked to clean up the scene and a sign on the door of the starbucks says it will be closed for an undetermined anmount of time... we are working with police to bring you the latest information... reporting in downtown eugene... emma jerome kezi 9 news."
