Accidental shooting sends child to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- An accidental shooting sent a child to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries Tuesday, Springfield police say.

The incident happened in the 4900 block of Bluebelle Way before noon. 

Police said the 12-year-old boy and his friends were playing with a handgun and it went off. Investigation shows one child shot the other in the leg.  

The boy was taken to RiverBend Hospital.

The investigation is ongoing. All parties are cooperating.
